Formative assessment is sooo so so important.

It's the ONLY kind of assessment that allows us to see where our students are in the learning process in REAL TIME.

• Diagnostic Assessments show you what the kids knew before you taught them
• Summative Assessments show what they learned from what you taught them
• But Formative Assessments show you where students are, and what they're learning, RIGHT NOW.

And this is CRITICAL!!

We don't want to waste 15 minutes teaching when they're stuck on something we taught 20 minutes ago.

We need to ensure our students are CONSTANTLY engaged, and actually learning what we teach them (for their sake, and for our sanity!!).

Ideally, we should be formatively assessing our students every 2, to 5, to 10 minutes.

During each session, the goal is for you to create a new formative assessment that you will then use with your students for an upcoming lesson. This means you're not just learning for the sake of learning; you're creating resources that you'll actually assign to your students!!
